Piège presents a group of recent two-dimensional works by Julie Ouellet constituted of mounds of sinuous lines that form floating, organic shapes. With an astonishing economy of means, these labyrinthian works ensnare the eye, their lines succeeding in monopolizing attention through their many twists, turns, and junctions. Caught up in her own game, the artist obsessively weaves an impressive web of knots, tangles and dead ends with pencil, ink, oil or wax—lines that then summon those coming across them to roam the uncertain path they limn and become lost in them in their turn.
