RIOPELLE, the sculptor
His inspirations, foundries, and friendships
The Inverness Bronze Museum presents a unique exhibition highlighting the sculptural work of Jean Paul Riopelle, tracing his inspirations and his relationships with foundry workers and fellow artists. The exhibition immerses us in Jean Paul Riopelle's rich imagination: the wild forests of France and Canada populated by bears, owls, moose, elk, and wild boar, as well as farm animals. References to the kings of Thule and the game of flag enrich this imaginary quest.
Jean Paul Riopelle brought his inspirations to life using various techniques: bronze, etching, pastel, charcoal, mixed media, Indian ink and silverpoint, oil and collage (...) The exhibition pays tribute to Riopelle's friendships with artists and artisans, which were fundamental to his ability to exchange ideas, work and create.
Bronzes created by his friend Roseline Granet, a sculptor with whom he shared the Fonderie de Meudon in France, are presented alongside works by his friends Sam Szafran and Paul Rebeyrolle.
The Simon Blais Gallery is pleased to have contributed to this exhibition by lending several works.
