Galerie Simon Blais has been promoting Jean Paul Riopelle's work on paper for 28 years. Riopelle established himself as a prolific artist through his automatist compositions on paper: inks, gouaches, and acrylics. To mark the publication of volume 6 of the catalogue raisonné, the gallery is presenting an exhibition devoted to the artist's works on paper, created between 1980 and 1985.
During this pivotal period, Riopelle tackled several major themes that marked his career, such as L'Ombrette, Les Oies bleues, Onion Island, and Oies sauvages. These iconic plates attest to the richness and maturity of his work as an engraver.
The launch of volume 6 of the catalogue raisonné covering the production of works painted on paper, as well as sculptures and lava works created between 1980 and 1985, will take place on November 8 from 2 to 5 p.m. at the gallery in the presence of Mrs. Yseult Riopelle.
