Created in parallel with the Papier16 art fair, Couper/Coller will present works that have been executed, in whole or in part, through the use of collage. By combining elements of various origins, collage breaks free from a realistic depiction of the world. If the bits and pieces employed lose a part of their own identity, once put together they help create entirely new realms. Eschewing the familiar, the works in this exhibition attempt to prompt improbable encounters.
Layering, ripping, repetition, division, photomontage, relief, erasure—such are the techniques that have been called upon to produce the works to be brought together here, created by Louis-Philippe Côté, Catherine Farish, Michel Goulet, Jacques Hurtubise, Louise Robert, Françoise Sullivan, Ehryn Torrell, André Villers and Irene F. Whittome.
