Tribal & Modern: African Art and Modern Works
Throughout the summer, Galerie Simon Blais will feature an unusual presentation of both abstract works and art from different regions in Africa. In it works from leading Québec and international artists of the modern era—Edmund Alleyn, Denis Juneau, Harold Klunder, Rita Letendre, Jean McEwen, Jean Paul Riopelle, Françoise Sullivan, and David Nash—will share space with those of the artisan sculptors who created the material heritage of sub-Saharan African culture. Tribal & Moderndraws upon a collection of paintings from the last 60 years, as well as artifacts from various West African peoples, including the Ibo, Lobi, Dogon, Jukun, Ibibio, Ewe and Baoulé. On this occasion, always-inspired gallerist Simon Blais offers us an amazingly boundary-breaking exhibition.
