With this exhibition, we wanted to celebrate paper in a different way, not as a mere support for a work, but as a material used in the very process of creation. We will therefore be showing studies that have served as preparatory “sketches” for paintings and photographs. It is not often that we have the opportunity to see the preliminary approach to a piece, and this exhibition will provide a glimpse of a small part of the work that goes on in the studio. We will also be able to see the various means—from sketchbooks to image editing software—utilized by different artists from different generations to sketch out their ideas.
On view in this exhibition will be works by artists Marie-Eve Beaulieu, Bertrand Carrière, Louis-Philippe Côté, Jean-Sébastien Denis, Éliane Excoffier, Denis Juneau, Harold Klunder, Alexis Lavoie, François-Xavier Marange, Julie Ouellet and Irene F. Whittome.
