Finissage + Catalogue Launch on December 16, 2 to 4 p.m. Facebook Event
Exhibition of new paintings by Louis-Philippe Côté. Two series of paintings are presented: La chambre aux miroirs and Super-futur. The exhibition runs from November 8 to December 16, 2023. This is Côté's seventh solo exhibition at Galerie Simon Blais.
La chambre aux miroirs follows the series Dérive (2017), Apocalypse silencieuse (2019) and Intérieur (2021). Côté continues his exploration of color and inner worlds. The highly complex paintings in La chambre aux miroirs emerged from an accumulation of layers, erasures and repentances. It's this relentlessness with the material that creates the richness of color and evanescent spaces on the edge of dream and apparition.
The second series, Super-futur, continues the painter's interest in exploring collage through the field of painting. Here, Côté combines figurative references with pictorial abstraction. This experimental series offers an opposite point of view to the paintings in La chambre aux miroirs, with the violence of reality and the artist's referential obsessions more palpable.
On the same occasion, Galerie Simon Blais will publish the artist's first monograph, Ombre et éblouissement. It features a selection of painted works from 2003 to 2023, plus an essay by Maxence Croteau on the paintings in La chambre aux miroirs.
