A Glimpse into Jessica Peters' Creative Process

Feb. 1, 2024

Artist Jessica Peters, born in 1986 in Saint-Jérôme and currently residing in the Laurentians, Quebec, distinguishes herself through her ability to capture the ever-changing essence of her immediate environment in works that transcend time and landscape evolution. Her artistic journey, marked by notable exhibitions, reflects a profound commitment to her community and a constant concern to preserve and celebrate regional history.

Following her project "Invasions," exhibited in Lachute in the spring of 2019, Jessica Peters embarked on a more personal series, exploring places anchored in collective memory. These places, frequented daily and often on the brink of disappearance, become the central subject of her artistic work.

Through painting, drawing, collage, and recently installation, Jessica explores the dynamics between the natural and urban panorama. Each series she presents testifies to both the history of the represented places and her own lived experiences. She stages elements of current architecture as well as remnants of disappeared structures, delving into traces of human domestication and their impacts on the environment.

The current exhibition showcases a diverse collection of paintings, collages on wood and canvas, as well as collages on paper. Some paintings, highlighting historical places in Lachute, were exhibited at the Argenteuil Art Center in September 2022, as part of a broader Public Art project in the fall of 2022.
