On view at Montréal’s Galerie Simon Blais will be an exhibition of works by Stéphane Dionne, the 2010 recipient of the Sylvie and Simon Blais Award for Emerging Visual Artists. Mainly comprising large video paintings, the exhibition Unités offers a meticulous examination of individuals isolated from each other in an environment removed from anything encountered daily.
Stéphane Dionne’s video works involve static shots of composite worlds projected on a floor or wall, within which are shown various individuals who have been filmed separately. For their part, his photographs glean images taken from the videos he shoots to immortalize fleeting moments. This minimalist, yet spectacular, technique results in an astute meditation on the contemporary individual.
