Galerie Simon Blais is proud to present l’ombre au tableau — déplacement #3 by Caroline Mauxion, the recipient of the 2015 Sylvie and Simon Blais Foundation Award for Emerging Visual Artists. The exhibition comprises a video as well as a group of photographs, a number of which were taken recently in the gallery.

"At first glance, the images Caroline Mauxion creates seem to belong to an abstract aesthetic that places less value on photography’s capacity for faithful reproduction than on colour and their positioning in a gallery. Because of her obvious desire to place these works in exhibition spaces, photograph them there and then offer up the resulting image as a final work, it might also be thought that she is engaged, although in a very particular way, in an in situ practice. While both approaches have to be taken into consideration in order to properly grasp what is going on in her work, one must also examine what intentions are served by the two strategies. In fact, it is by following such approaches that the artist better returns to photography."
