Ulysse Comtois was a Québec sculptor and painter born on March 2, 1931 in Granby and died on July 10, 1999 in Montreal. After studying at the École des beaux-arts de Montréal, Ulysse Comtois began to paint abstract canvases with repetitive modular elements, an approach he would also use in his sculptures. The Musée d'art contemporain de Montréal devoted a retrospective exhibition to him in 1983. He taught visual arts at the Université du Québec à Montréal and at Concordia University.
